Dhakuakhana College


Dhakuakhana College in the District of Lakhimpur, Assam (India) was established in 1966 by way of public donations. It envisages social transformation through higher education and community reach out programs. The History of the college is a reflection of keen and earnest desire of the people of Dhakuakhana where most of the inhabitants are belonging to the underprivileged sections of the society viz. the Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Other backward classes. The college is affiliated to the Dibrugarh University,Dibrugarh and recognized by the UGC under sections 2(f) and 12(B).

                    The college was taken under Deficit system of Grant in Aid in 1975 and brought under the provincialised system by the Government of Assam in December 2005. It offers undergraduate courses in Science and Humanities having sixteen teaching departments. It also runs a Bio-Tech Hub and a study centre under the Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University(KKHSOU). The permanent faculty strength of the college is forty nine and that of non teaching staff is twenty four.The present students' enrollment is more than one thousand (including H.S Classes). It has a huge pool of bright alumni that includes a good numbers of university rank holders; quite a few of them occupying prominent position in public life. The 14.95 acre big campus is having the requisite infrastructures- the administrative building, well equipped Library and classrooms, laboratories , playground, Boys and Girls Hostel, the canteen and other basic amenities.

                    The Institution believes in establishing new courses to equip students in the changing scenario and to meet the need of the local society . The college organizes various community reach out programs through its NSS Unit and other forums, collaborates NGOs and civic forums. It aims to introduce courses on entrepreneurship development and looking forward to partner with the industry and other entrepreneurs. The college is all set to celebrate its Golden Jubilee Year that starts on 25th July, 2015. Fifty numbers of multifaceted programs will be organized to mark the occasion.


Administration

The management structure of the college comprises with the Governing Body (GB) as its apex decision making body (constituted as per Assam College Employees' Provincialization Act 2005).The President of the Body is appointed by the Director of Higher Education for a tenure of five years. The GB has representatives of the hon'ble Vice Chancellor of the affiliating University, the teachers' unit, the employees' unit and the guardians; the local MLA being the special invitee member. It constitutes various sub-committees and delegates authority to make decisions at functional level pursuing the institutional policy and in accordance with the rules/ guidelines of the government, the UGC or the affiliating university. The Principal plays the pivotal role in administering the overall activities as the secretary of the GB. The Vice Principal looks after the academic matters. The IQAC set goals, formulate action plans, makes effort for its implementation, monitors the overall activities, collects feedback and undertakes the quality sustenance and enhancement measures through mitigation committees. The Principal holds discussion with the Teachers' Unit, the Employees' Unit, the Students' Union, and other stake holders; reviews the performances and intimate the Governing Body for onward course of action.
