The Department of Anthropology is one of the important department of Dhakuakhana College which has been trying to promote academic and socio cultural environment of this part of Upper Assam since its inception. Anthropology as a science discipline was for the first time introduced at Dhakuakhana College in the year 1988 with the decision of Governing Body of the College. Three Students in science stream in undergraduate courses were admitted into TDC 1st year in 1995 and all of them successfully completed the final examination in 1998.

Initially, the practical classes were carried out in the general classroom. In July, 1999 the practical classes was shifted to the science building. At present the department has sufficient practical equipment with different tools and instruments. There was no museum of the department at the beginning but gradually with humble efforts of the faculty members as well as curious students, small departmental museum has been setup and possible measures have been taken to arrange the cultural artifacts available.
